Overview

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser; "browser storage" (such as local storage) works in a similar way. This page lists every cookie and type of browser storage used by jinxterlabs.com, including the KaraYou song request page, and why.

We don't use cookies or storage for analytics, advertising, or tracking you across other websites. Everything listed below is strictly necessary for a feature you choose to use, such as signing in, checking out, or requesting a song. The law doesn't require consent for strictly necessary storage, which is why this site doesn't show a cookie banner. If we ever add anything that isn't strictly necessary, we'll ask for your consent first and update this page.

KaraYou Song Request Page

The KaraYou request page (the one guests open by scanning a venue's QR code) uses no cookies. After you tap "I Agree & Continue", it keeps the following in your phone's local storage, on your phone only, so the page works the next time you open it:

ItemPurpose
karaYou_privacyAccepted Remembers that you agreed, so you're not asked every time
karaYou_deviceKey A random key that lets the venue recognise your phone for cooldowns, blocking and membership. We only ever store a one-way hash of it.
karaYou_lastVenue, karaYou_lastRoom, karaYou_lastSig The last venue you connected to, so the page reopens on it
karaYou_myRequests_… The IDs of your requests, so you can follow their place in the queue
cooldown_…, karaYou_cooldownMS The wait time between your requests
karaYou_pin_… The venue PIN you entered, if the venue uses one
karaYou_member_…, karaYou_memberSignals_… Your member code and the host's answers, at members-only venues

The page also keeps an offline copy of its own files (a service worker cache) so it loads quickly and still opens with a weak signal. The Firebase software it uses keeps a small record of the dates it was used, with no identifiers. If you tap "Enable Notifications", Firebase Cloud Messaging also stores a push registration in your browser, used only to tell you when your song is up next. All of this stays until you clear your browser's data for the site.

KaraHome's guest page is served by the host's own computer, not by this website. It keeps a random device ID in your browser so the host's app can recognise your phone.

Managing Cookies

You can delete or block cookies and site data in your browser's settings. If you block the cookies above, the features that rely on them stop working: you won't be able to sign in, check out, or keep your place on the KaraYou request page.
